Carl Johengen’s compositional talents have won considerable acclaim; more than two dozen of his liturgical compositions have been published by five nationally recognized companies: GIA, World Library Publications, Hope Publishing Co., Selah Publishing, and Oregon Catholic Press. In 2007, his “Sky-Born Music” was published by Lawson-Gould Publishers.

In July 2008, his “At the Table of the World” was performed at the World Choir Games in Graz, Austria. Also in July 2008, his “Skyborn Music” was performed by the Providence Gay Men’s Chorus at the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA Choruses) International Festival in Miami.

In June 1994, Carl’s “I Am the Living Bread” was the winning entry in the “Young New York ’94” Hymn Competition sponsored by the Archdiocese of New York. In 1993 he was awarded first prize in a composition contest sponsored by J.S. Paluch/World Library Publications of Chicago; his winning entry, Veni Creator Spiritus, was premiered to great acclaim before an audience of 2500 church musicians at the 1993 National Association of Pastoral Musicians convention in St. Louis, and has been released on CD and cassette.

Honorable Mention, “New York Sings” Composers’ Symposium, November 2006; sponsored by the Women’s Chorale of 171 Cedar Arts Center, Corning NY. “Sky-Born Music” (SSA arrangement) was among eight finalists chosen by the Chorale from works submitted by New York State composers; winner and Honorable Mentions were chosen by clinicians Francisco Nunez and Glenn McClure.
